Chicago, Illinois
Chicago developers have always been drawn to six-corner sites where the city’s diagonal arteries intersect the orthogonal grid. In 1927, a group of ambitious investors purchased a significant part of the site at Milwaukee, Diversey, and Kimball and brought in Rissman & Hirschfeld to create a major commercial center. The project included a large department store on the west side of Milwaukee and an apartment-hotel across the street.
